Bitwig Sync/Setup Issues.

Latest Bitwig 6. Latest Nome2 firmware.

I have the nome clock output plugged in my cirklon. The cirklon has a 16th note cv clock plugged into a the daw audio input for a short audible transient clock I can hear to sync things.

Nome is connected. When I press play in DAW Nome sync light comes on but no play light comes on. If I press play on the Nome the cirklon starts and I can hear its clock in the daw. The daw does not start.
If I tick to enable 'nome 2 commands' in the Bitwig sync window the Nome will now play when I press play in the daw. The daw will still not play when I use the nome sync button (I dont really care about this, once its working nome will be out of sight.)

Now the DAW transport starts the Nome I recorded the audible cv clock coming from the Cirklon. The clock recorded and it is BANG on the beat. Yay! Exactly what I've been wanting.

But...
After playing back again and turning on the Bitwig metronome, Ive realised the Live audio from the cirklon clock isn't in time with the Bitwig audio. Even though it records perfectly, this is no use to me, Fk.

Following the Nome instructions, which aren't particularly clear once you get past the initial connections, I thought I might need to adjust the Nome plugin sync setting. A setting of -16 gets my gear audibly in time with the daw while it's playing but it goes out of sync every time I stop and start. Once you set it back to -16 it's in time again.

At this point I've no idea what I'm supposed to be doing. Hopefully this is just some setup thing that I'm missing.

I need the monitored audio coming from my gear to run in time with the DAW, not just the recordings, or this is gonna be pointless.

Hi :)

A Bitwig user! Welcome :D

For Bitwig all you have to do is follow step by step the instructions in the U-SYNC Quick Start PDF on https://simntonic.com/pages/support.
Make sure to follow both section 1 and 3. For section 1, your "machine" can be your Cirklon with the audible transient clock.

Based on what you wrote, I would particularly aware of the following points:
  • All MIDI Sync/clock between Nome and Bitwig must be deactivated (U-SYNC takes care of it).
  • To get Bitwig to start when you press Play on the Nome, you need to set Nome as a "Controller" (see section 3.2)
  • Make sure the autoplay is on in the Nome settings (A.PL setting set to "bot")
  • Be aware of your monitoring settings - if what you hear has a delay but the recordings are on the grid (or the other way around), it's usually because you are monitoring through the DAW. Ableton has a very extensive list of options when it comes to monitoring to try to fit every single situation - I'm pretty sure Bitwig has something similar.

[*] All MIDI Sync/clock between Nome and Bitwig must be deactivated (U-SYNC takes care of it).
CHECK!
Done. Nothing in Bitwig checked.

2
[*] To get Bitwig to start when you press Play on the Nome, you need to set Nome as a "Controller" (see section 3.2)

[*] Make sure the autoplay is on in the Nome settings (A.PL setting set to "bot")
Done. It looks EXACTLY like the screen shot in the manual.

Nome does NOT run when I press play in Bitwig. I have to go to point 1 and tick the sync box labelled Nome 2 commands. Then it does. But clicking play on the Nome only starts the cirklon.
IS there another setting on the nome im missing? It's set to bot.

What I really wish the Nome Usync app had is one slider to get the clock aligned with the DAW audio, then another to align with the recording grid. Not sure how feasible that is. Right now its looking like I will only be able to monitor outside of the DAW because Bitwig as far as Im aware doesn't have those adjustment settings.
Ive always just used the midi clock offset to get it playing time with the daw audio then adjusted the recording offset to suit the grid. Nome has removed my ability to adjust what I'm hearing in time relative with the DAW audio.

The second issue is the main thing I need to get sorted here though.

AH!: After a restart, I think it's sorted now.

Good to hear :)

About your "one slider for recording, one slider for monitoring" idea: yes that would be nice, but it's definitely not possible. The DAW is the one that takes care of the monitoring/recording offset, this is completely out of reach for a plugin.

The best we could do is having 2 sliders with a toggle button so you can quickly switch between one and the other. But actually you can already do this by having 2 presets or even 2 tracks with the U-SYNC plugin: one for recording and one for monitoring. Just make sure only one is active at the same time.
